It’s a big bad world!

These days the crime rates across the globe is surpassing all limits. Rapes, molestations, pick-pocketing, robbing, stealing and so on and so forth. Not everyone can afford a gun and some times pepper sprays do not work. So the million dollar question is what to do? Self reliance is the best help. Learning martial arts can be very useful during a situation of crisis. One of the famous martial arts is Taekwondo. It’s easy to learn and master and can act as a self protection or deterrence. Being a national sport of South Korea, Taekwondo is an ancient Korean martial art.

What is a Taekwondo?

Taekwondo is an ancient Korean martial art that involves kick-boxing and other stuff. If we try to translate it to English it would mean use of the hand and the foot. It’s quite powerful and effective. The name taekwondo is also written as taekwon-do, tae kwon-do, or tae kwon do by various organizations. It’s a combination of combat techniques, meditation, self defense, sports and exercise. One must be very diligent to learn this art. Though it has gained grounds world-wide, but the best place to learn the art of Taekwondo training is Korea.

Melbourne taekwondo

Taekwondo is one of the most accepted warlike arts skillful around the world. It is a sport that will improve one’s strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina. The family in Melbourne owned and operated soldierly arts school provides high quality taekwondo training sessions for students of all ages. The class sizes are deliberately kept small to provide uttermost importance to students learning this martial art. The main goal is for students to build up confidence and self-discipline through their training. Taekwondo students also achieve bodily fitness and improved co-ordination, suppleness and litheness – all in a fun and courteous environment.

The people friendly school is dedicated to providing safe martial arts knowledge to disciples of all ages. To focus the right amount of attention, class sizes have been kept small. This ensures that the students get the maximum attention and get the very best out of their practice.

Kickboxing

Kickboxing is an essential part of Taekwondo. It’s a stand up combat force involving kicking and punching. It is often used for self defense and a contact sport. There is no single international governing body. International governing bodies include World Association of Kickboxing Organizations, World Kickboxing Association, International Sport Karate Association, International Kickboxing Federation, World Kickboxing Federation, World Kickboxing Network, among others.

TKD
Oh’s Taekwondo Centre is glad to be a part and association of TKD Sport Taekwondo Australia Inc. (STA), the Australian National Body for Taekwondo.

Recognize the Warning Signs of Bullying

Posted: Dec 08, 2011 |Comments: 0

]]>

Bullying is a serious problem around the world and the number of bullies as well as those being bullied grows each year. It is important that we recognize the warning signs of bullying whether it is the signs of someone being bullied or the signs of someone actually taking part as the bully. If you are a parent or even an individual working in an environment (school or work) where bullying may be present, here are a few warning signs that can help you recognize bullying from the get-go rather than when it is too late.

Warning Signs of Being Bullied

There are many warning signs of a child or individual being bullied. Some of these warning signs are listed below; however, there are plenty that are not listed. If for any reason you believe you know someone that is being bullied, you should take action immediately. Here are signs of a student being bullied:

Reports the loss of items including but not limited to jewelry, books, clothes and electronics.
Has injuries that are unexplained or that he/she does not wish to speak about.
Comes home from school or work with missing belongings including books and clothes.
Has difficulty sleeping and complains of frequent bad dreams or nightmares.
Frequently complains of being sick, having headaches and stomach aches.
Experiences changes in eating habits.
Comes home hungry because they did not eat lunch.
Running away and/or leaving home.
Hurts themselves.
Scared to go to school.
Interest is lost in school, extra-curricular activities, sports, etc.
Appears to be sad and depressed upon arrival at home from school.
Acts differently than normal.
Frequently feels as though they are not good enough.
Avoids specific places in town.
Has fewer friends unexpectedly.
Talks about suicide.

]]>

Warning Signs of a Bully

Just as there are children that are bullied, there are also those that bully. Generally, there are more victims than attackers, but it is still just as important to be able to recognize a bully as it is a victim. Here are a few warnings of a bully:

Has new belongings and/or extra money without a real explanation of where the items came from.
Is very quick to blame other individuals.
Receives detention or is sent to the principal’s office on a regular basis.
Prone to partake in verbal and physical fights with others.
Is often violent with others.
Has friends that are violent with others and bully others.
Will not accept responsibility for their actions.
Feels that they need to be the best at what they do and that they need to win.

You have now been equipped with the knowledge of what to expect to see from a bully or from a bully’s victim. Bullying is a very serious problem and is frankly turning into a widespread epidemic, so to speak. We can help stop the act of bullying by being familiar with the warning signs of a bully and the warning signs of someone being bullied. Take action now to help protect our youngster’s futures!

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu(Bjj) is a form of mixed martial art that has been derived from the Japanese martial art form of Kodokan judo. This is basically a kind of art related to self defense . Being weak or strong does not matter much in this form as what matters is the technique. By using proper techniques even a weak person can defeat a strong one. This form of martial art basically focuses on ground fighting.

Involving a number of various techniques to overcome the opponent is the fundamental principle associated with Jiu Jitsu Gi. Different types of joint locks and chokes are some of the common approaches used in the sport. Such techniques when used appropriately help to immobilize the opponent thus making them unable to move.

As using proper techniques is what matters the most in Bjj, it is necessary to be well trained for performing the art. Training however should be taken from a person who is an expert in this form. There are various clubs that make such training available. Regular practice is essential to improve ones skills.

An appropriate outfit is the basic requirement of training. Using appropriate Jiu Jitsu Gi is very beneficial to the person who wishes to practice the form. The Jiu Jitsu Gi is often also referred to as Jiu Jitsu kimonos.  The components of the Jiu Jitsu Gi consists of a jacket, a belt which is tied around the jacket and a pant. The outfit usually has a good fitting so that the opponent is not able to take advantage of it.

While choosing a Jiu Jitsu Gi there are certain things that need to be kept in mind. Only outfits of blue, white or black color can be worn at international level. The outfit can only be of any one color. Combination of colors in outfit like black jacket and white pant is not permitted. The Jiu Jitsu Gi also has to be in good condition.

Other most important thing that matters while choosing an appropriate Jiu Jitsu Gi is the type of weaves it is made up of. The gi comes in different forms of weaves like single weave, double weave, gold weave and pearl weave. In comparison to the single weave a kimono having a double weave is much heavier and stronger. Jiu Jitsu Gi having either gold weave or pearl weave is of great comfort. However in comparison to pearl weave, gold weave is heavier. Also the main disadvantage that gold weave has over pearl weave is that it shrinks after washing.

A perfect kimono is most essential to master the art form. A best quality Jiu Jitsu Gi will help in learning all the moves of the sport without the fear of the gi ripping off. It is thus important to know the good and bad things related to all the available types of gi. The body mass index is the factor taken into consideration while choosing the appropriate size. One can thus choose the appropriate size and type accordingly.

It was Gurdjieff who said that man is walking around asleep, and that he needs to wake up. This is intimated in the old Chinese tale of the man who woke from a dream that he was a butterfly, and wondered if he was really a butterfly dreaming that he was a man. This is the essence of action when one progresses from Yoga to Martial Arts.

There is a progression from the sleeping state to the waking state in this arrangement of discipline. Unfortunately, people don’t really sees this progression, or, at best, they get stuck in one of the steps of the progression, and never truly awake. One should never be satisfied with one discipline…one should explore this progression fully that one might fully awake.

Starting with Zen meditation, one learns that they are. One merely sits in the same place, prone only to what the world can inflict upon them (very little while sitting), and to the fantasies of their mind. As time moves forward, however, fantasies become less than entertaining, and there is an awakening to what is obfuscated by the fantasies…reality.

Yoga is wonderful as second step, as it acclimates a person to a variety of positions and potentials. One should understand that as one analyzes their potentials, one is coming into their vision of the universe. Yes, you might clean out your kidneys, but your vision of what is real is what is at stake.

After Yoga–mind you, I am offering this sequence in reverse here, I usually prefer going with a hard art like Karate, but the progression I am offering lends itself to this modification–Tai Chi Chuan would be a wonderful third step. Tai Chi Chuan is not no motion, it is more than no motion, and the wonderous visions of Zen and Yoga slowly take shape, and energies begin to move. The vast expanse of universe that is the core of every human being is beginning to move like a gargantuate locomotive.

After delving into Tai Chi Chuan one could progress into another form of Wudan Martial Arts, like Pa Kua Chang. This would be more motion, more ways of examining your vision of the world, more ways of growing your Great Space through the possibilities of motion. One should understand, by this point, that they are a vision; that behind the Great Space of the human being there is a viewpoint of it all: there is you, the I am.

Continuing our evolution, Shaolin Kung Fu raises up its astounding head. Motion becomes wilder, gyrating, but securing all is the vision behind the Great Space of you. Now one is a sparkler in the night, creating arcs of geometry to enhance the world.

And, we can continue our journey through a variety of martial arts, far beyond the mere desire to kill, far into the glorious essence of ourselves: the I ams of the universe. Mind you, as I said before, this progression is a bit backwards, usually people who are old will attempt this route, for their bodies are sedentary. But, old or young, we can all wake up: our bodies are the Universe; we are the I ams; there is a life to discover.

What is your next step? Fill in the pieces that will wake you up and lead you to a new reality! Whether it is Yoga, Tai Chi Chuan, Shaolin Kung Fu, or some other art, head on over over to Monster Martial Arts and arrange your journey!
